History of Bridge in Spain
Bridge arrived in Spain at the beginning of the 20th century, gaining popularity among the upper classes of Madrid and Barcelona. The first clubs were founded in the 1930s, although the Civil War interrupted their development.
After the post-war period, Bridge re-emerged with force. In 1960 the Spanish Bridge Federation was founded, and since then the game has continued to grow. Spain has produced international-level players and has organized important European competitions.
Today, Spanish Bridge is going through a period of renewal, with new generations of players and the rise of online Bridge expanding the base of practitioners.
